BATUMI
It's not like the rest of Georgia. It has different faces and you have to see them all. Must mention that it has recently become a "hot" destination for tourists from all over the world.
Batumi is modern seaside resort on the shores of the Black Sea.
The center and port of Batumi is a real tourist paradise. The palm-lined streets are lined with many hotels – bigger, smaller, more elegant and simpler. All the streets of Batumi lead to the sea - the rocky Black Sea beach with bright blue water. Since the center of Batumi is much smaller than Tbilisi, all attractions are very close to each other, mostly within a 20-minute walk. You don't even have to go anywhere to swim or lie down by the sea - you can do it right there in the center! In the evenings, Batumi has an active nightlife. Outdoor cafes by the sea attract vacationers with drinks, food and often loud music.
But this is only one of the faces of Batumi. Walking deeper into the city from the beach, the tidy, modern center with new buildings and local cultural treasures opens up. The Europa square, where the statue "Medea with a golden calf" stands, is especially beautiful. Legend has it that the daughter of the ruler of Colchis, Aietas, fell in love with Jason, the leader of the seafaring Argonauts, and helped him steal a golden sheep from her own father.
Among the sights, we should mention the Astronomical Clocka and the Alphabet Tower dedicated to the unique written language of Georgia, and the modest Chacha Tower, in the fountain of which the Georgian kanja, called chacha, flowed instead of water for 15 minutes a day. The life of this pleasure was short-lived, because soon the fountain was occupied by homeless people and aggressive lads, because of which the faucet of the Georgian fire pot was turned off.
The old town of Batumi is hidden deeper, with cobbled streets and two or three-story high houses - no high-rise buildings. Although shops and entertainment venues can be found in the old town, the main tourist center is still closer to the sea.
Going deeper into the city and further away from the sea, the third face of Batumi is revealed in addition to the two already described - a seaside resort and a European-style city. The part of Batumi where locals live. Some houses are tidier, others more dilapidated, but the contrast with the seaside center is very palpable.
