TBILISI
Tbilisi is the biggest city and capital of Georgia, with about 1.2 million people living there. It was started back in the fifth century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia and has been the main city for different Georgian kingdoms and republics since then.
Between 1801 and 1917, when Georgia was part of the Russian Empire, Tbilisi was really important. It was the main place for governing both the northern and southern parts of the Caucasus, called the Caucasus Viceroyalty.
Because Tbilisi is in a great spot between Europe and Asia, and close to the Silk Road, it has been a big deal for a long time. Today, it's still a major place for trade and moving energy around.
The buildings in Tbilisi show its long history. You can see old ones from the medieval times, newer ones from the Soviet era, and even modern ones. Tbilisi is a mix of old and new, and it shows how Georgia has changed over time.
Mother of Georgia - it is 20 metre tall aluminum sculpture of Georgian women, which stands on Sololaki Hill. It is nice place to have great overlook of Tbilisi. She symbolizes that not only Georgian man was ready to protect the land and people - she holds a sword in one hand and are ready to fight enemies, and a cup of vine in other - to welcome the guests.
Old Town - tourist love it, it is romantic and historical heart of Tbilisi. Old Tbilisi is famous with such must-see landmarks as the picturesque Metekhi church, the bustling Europe Square, the iconic Bridge of Peace, and a thrilling cable car ride to the ancient Narikala fortress, Legvatkhevi waterfall and rejuvenating Sulphur baths of Tbilisi. It is magnificent place to feel the colourful and passionate history, culture, architecture, people gathering and celebrating life on every corner.
Georgian national Museum - if you are for the first time - it is place you must visit. Museum has gathered some of the country's most important historical artefacts. It gives not only a understanding our culture, but also gives glimpse of our long history.
Tbilisi art gallery - it is located in beautiful old building (1850). Its Mirror Halls with carved interior decorated with glinting mirror shards and Qajar master's paintings is one of the cities most overlooked gems. Just take some time and you will love it!
Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi - called Sameba is the main spiritual centre of Georgian Orthodox Church and one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world.
Georgian Stonehenge - it is massive 16-pillar structure, which hasn't been finished due to political issues. Each of the monuments 35-metre pillars holds important events in Georgian history.
